History

Courtyard Kilshannig House

The history of The Courtyard Kilshannig House dates back to 1766 when it was built as a stately home for a wealthy Cork banker. The house stands as a testament to the rich heritage and architectural splendour of the region and the genius of a Sardinian architect and Italian plasterers who applied the magnificent stucco to the principle ceilings.

Originally completed in 1766, the house has witnessed the ebb and flow of history, and its walls hold the stories of generations that have called it home. It has seen depletion due to the stripping of roofs due to taxation and neglect  of absent or disinterested owners. However the whole property has over time been completely renovated and is revived to its original splendour.

Kilshannig has played host too many notable figures and witnessed significant events throughout its existence. It has been a witness to both joyous celebrations and somber moments, as families and communities gathered within its walls. The house embodies a timeless elegance that transports visitors back in time.

The estate’s grounds have also seen their share of historical significance. The surrounding lands have witnessed the changing tides of agricultural practices and Government policies. The landscapes bear the marks of human endeavour and the enduring beauty of the natural world.

Today, the Courtyard at Kilshannig House stands as a symbol of refined elegance and offers a haven for guests seeking a retreat from the demands of modern life, while preserving its historical charm. The estate has been thoughtfully updated with modern amenities and luxuries, ensuring a comfortable and memorable experience for all who visit.

As you explore the grounds and step into the grandeur of the Courtyard at Kilshannig House, you embark on a journey that connects the past with the present, and invites you to be a part of the living history that thrives within its walls.
